West Smethwick Park
📍 Smethwick, West Midlands
Spacious community park featuring children's playground, water features with ducks and wildlife, and pram-friendly walking paths. Free parking on site, with ongoing improvements to habitat and boardwalk areas.
The park is in the process of being made over. We walked around it yesterday and we were impressed with the work that is going on there. From what I could see there is a lot of work happening that will definitely benefit wildlife. A bog area with a board walk the stream has been opened up. The lake looks much better with the edges all maintained and planting around it. The large building that I believe will include a coffee area and possibly food looks nice, made with wood panels. Lots of trees being planted, along with shrubs and annual flowers. Considering it was a cool day we heard a green woodpecker along with other birds we also noticed ground nesting bees (harmless they can't sting, before you panic.) Our granddaughter enjoyed the swing and slide in the play area. There are football pitches, cricket areas and a basket ball court with parking provided. I look forward to the park opening so we can access all these areas properly.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
A strong choice for families wanting a clean, accessible park with wildlife and play facilities in one space. The ongoing renovation work is adding habitat features that benefit wildlife watching. Best visited during daytime. The Sunday morning yoga sessions are open to all and require only a mat.

“Likely one of the best locations within the neighborhood, easily the cleanest and most exquisite. An extraordinary park to stroll in and straighten up your thoughts. Large enough to literally get lost in. It's surprisingly clean and even has disabled parking. Safely can be an issue, as do I remember a situation where two kids were robbed late in the evening. But the park has cute ducks so five stars...”

“This place is so pretty and clean. Me and my sisters just drove around to find a place to walk and relax and we came across this park. Didn’t expect such a clean beauty. The ducks were also fascinating to watch, though I do wish they cleaned the lake more often.”
