1 / 3The Cockney Museum
π Stoneleigh, Greater London
Owner-run museum in a Stoneleigh alleyway showcasing Cockney history, Pearly Kings and Queens costumes, thousands of captioned photographs, a small cinema with historic films, and a memorabilia shop.
A great place to visit. Not massive but well laid out and good exhibits. Was well worth going and seeing what it was like when my family lived in Shoreditch. Some people had absolutely nothing and nowhere to live. My mother was born within the sound of Bow Bells. They moved when the war started to the countryside. You can tell George, former Pearly King of Peckham loves the museum and he is full of knowledge. Lots of photographs around also of famous people he met or knew. There is a nice little shop in the museum with something for everyone. We found it very easy to park using Just Park who we have used before. We then ambled past the shops back to the car. There were 4 of us and we were all glad we went and will probably go back sometime soon and be reminded of how much more we have today compared to then. Who knows what the future holds!
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with older children or multi-generational groups where grandparents can connect directly with the period on display. George's personal storytelling transforms the exhibits from static displays into living history.

βA little difficult to locate but once found it was a real treat! The lovely man who runs it is in his 80s and a true Cockney. He'll fill you in with many stories. There are thousands of photos with inscriptions below to read and wonderful Pearly costumes on display. There's also a small cinema showing some historic films. A great afternoon well spent. Thank you to George and his family for maintaining this museum.β

βGeorge has excelled in making this museum a trip down memory lane. So much to look at its worth a few visits to appreciate everything. You could definitely see George's passion for keeping the cockney history and pearly Kings and Queens tradition alive. Great little shop too. Definitely worth a visit. Would 100 percent recommend.β

βWe loved visiting this museum and meeting George. What a gent, we were so impressed with this passion project and his determination to keep a slice of Londonβs history alive and kicking. My mother in law, who grew up in Tottenham, loved it. Well done George, it was a pleasure to meet you.β
