1 / 2The Plaza
đ Stockport, North West
Award-winning Art Deco venue in Stockport town centre with intimate seating, excellent stage sight lines, family productions including Tom Gates and The Little Mermaid, comedy, tribute acts, and an atmospheric Art Deco cafe.
Love the venue. So well restored and friendly staff too. Seen comedy twice there recently and it's a very pleasant experience. (As well as great comedians) Just a slightly complicated seating numbering system we eventually worked out in the circle. (Odd numbers to the left even numbers to the right.)
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children old enough to engage with live performance â theatre, comedy, or concerts. The intimate scale means no bad seats and no need to arrive early to secure a view. Balcony rows suit shorter visitors; taller adults should check row options when booking.

âThis place is the antidote to modern glass and steel multiplexes. The handsome exterior sets the tone for the beautiful interior. Thoroughly enjoyed afternoon tea in the cafe - felt like Hercule Poirot could stroll in and sit next to us in this magnificently decorated room.â

âReally impressed! Beautiful art deco theatre but also brilliantly spacious and dead easy to get to. Looking forward to going back again.â

Overview
The Plaza opened in 1932 and has been carefully restored to its original Art Deco splendour. The auditorium is compact by modern standards â every seat gets a clear view of the stage, which suits children well. Productions rotate across family theatre, tribute concerts, comedy, and classic film screenings. The adjoining cafe runs afternoon tea in a period-decorated room. Circle seating uses an odd-left/even-right numbering system that can confuse on first visit. Balcony rows have sparse legroom.
