This place is an institution and like all institutions it has its problems. It’s far from the cleanest place in the world. There is often a faint smell of wee and loose hairs flying around the swimming changing rooms. A lot of the lockers are broken. The showers may be warm when you want them cold. However, and I’ve been coming here for 2 years now and thought about this review for a long time, I still think it deserves 5 stars. It’s a pillar of community that is run by great people and offers great services. Literally hundreds of children, working adults and old people rely on this place to exercise, socialise and have fun. I use the gym, pool and sauna primarily and genuinely love my experience of all three. I can come here and guarantee a good workout, a great sauna / cold shower session and some good conversations. Yes, there are times when it’s annoying that the pool is inexplicably closed or the sauna is shut for some reason or other. But for every annoying moment it’s outweighed by 3 or 4 beautiful moments like meeting new people in the (very hot and spacious) sauna or over hearing two old friends catch up by the free weights in the gym. The staff will help you. The services will work if you have a bit of patience. And you will come away from this place with faith in humanity and hopefully having had a good workout in the process. There’s a lot to improve, but it gets a 5* nonetheless - I can’t imagine not having this place!

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Families coming specifically for the soft play or the pool will get the most from this centre — both are functional and the community atmosphere is warm. The gym is not in a state to recommend to families. Go in person rather than calling, arrive with a plan for broken lockers, and the visit works well for toddlers through primary-school age.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

💡Bring a bag you can keep at your table rather than relying on lockers — many are broken
Visit in person for membership and class enquiries as phone lines are often unmanned
🎟️The renovated pool is the best-maintained area — prioritise swim sessions
🚗Toddler soft play is on the ground floor; older children's climbing is upstairs

Two floors to explore, the downstairs is a baby and toddler area with soft foam shapes and a small ball pit. Upstairs is the climbing area for the older toddlers who want to climb, slide and just run around and play with the different levels. It feels slightly darker upstairs but everything was clean and it was not busy as we came around 1pm-ish. It was £4.95 for one hour of play and there is also the cafe if you want something to munch on, you just need to ring the bell in the wall where the menu is. A few tables and chairs are laid out both downstairs and upstairs. It’s not bad for the price, location and type of play. Heads up the upstairs area if your an adult you will in your hands and knees but there are some parts you can stand.

Genuinely the worst gym I’ve been to. I’ve been looking for a new gym in the local area and have to say hands down my experience at the gym at Tottenham Green Leisure centre was dreadful. I thought I’d give it a try as the swimming pools been renovated and I thought the gym would be similar but wow what a let down. I found a lot of the machines very worn and the leather partially ripped. It didn’t seem very hygienic either. There was only a single power rack, 2 bench presses and not enough benches. I even found someone bringing over a plastic chair to overhead press! Very safe. The dumbbells only went up to 30kg and I also found the equipment was extremely disorganised. In the middle where the cables were it even looked like a building site with some of the maintenance/ repairs going on. I’ve attached a few photos of this. Definitely won’t be going back, it’s a shame, could really do with some renovation similar to the swimming pool.

The staff at the front desk were nice and helpful, however the sanitary conditions of the gym and changing rooms are absolutely disgusting. I tried calling several times but my call was sent to an answer machine saying they can’t pick up right now and to call later, and then cut off, so I decided to call back again but was met with the same thing. There are barely any machines so you have to wait until the other person is done and who knows when that is. There was someone with their bare sweaty feet out on the equipment and didn’t wipe after?? The only reason I have a membership is because of how often I go but I may cancel it to be honest considering the conditions. I don’t know if this is the centre or the council, but do better because it is foul. The only reason I gave a star was for the staff at the desk.

Overview

Tottenham Green Leisure Centre has a renovated swimming pool as its strongest facility, alongside a two-level soft play area: the ground floor has soft foam shapes and a ball pit for babies and toddlers, the upper level runs climbing frames and slides for older children. The gym is on a separate floor and draws consistent criticism for equipment age and hygiene. Many lockers throughout the building are broken. Phone lines are regularly unmanned — visit in person for enquiries.
