1 / 2Twycross Zoo
π Little Orton, Merseyside
Houses the UK's only bonobo troop alongside chimpanzees, endangered pileated gibbons, and Capybaras. Gruffalo Discovery Land, Wet 'n' Wild water play, and seasonal Lanterns of the Wild night trail. Pram-friendly throughout.
The Lanterns of the Wild show at the zoo was spectacular. Hard to imagine all the real animals were asleep in their quarters, whilst hundreds of people were walking round the grounds at night looking at the most amazing display of lanterns, in all shapes and sizes, of both real and imaginary animals. Well organised with timed tickets so not over crowded. Hope they bring this back next year. A fabulous photo opportunity.
π Family Action Verdict
Works well for all ages β toddlers through teens. The lantern trail is a genuine evening highlight and a strong reason to return in winter. Pram access is excellent throughout. Keeper talks and educational sessions add depth on daytime visits. Parking is an additional cost; pay before leaving.

βThe light trail was simply amazing! The best one we've done in 7 years of doing similar every December! Always have a great time. Love the new Cabybaras. Would love some more reasonable food options. Bring back the churros stand!β

βWe had the most wonderful time at Twycross Zoo for the light trail last night. It was such a magical evening and truly felt like something both adults and children could enjoy equally. Everywhere we turned there were beautiful displays, glowing pathways, and little moments that made everyone stop and smile. What really stood out was how relaxed the whole experience felt. Even though we ended up being some of the last people there, the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. We never felt hurried along. they made sure we were happy and able to take everything in at our own pace, which made a big difference to the night. Accessibility was great too. We had two prams with us and found the route easy to navigate, with plenty of space to move around comfortably. That meant we could focus on enjoying the lights rather than worrying. It was such a fantastic idea and so well done. We all enjoyed it so much and weβre already excited to see what will be in store next year. Weβll definitely be back! β¨Weβve told all our family and friends to visit!!β

βAbsolutely magical and festive! The Twycross Zoo Lantern Trail is beautiful, colourful, and truly awe-inspiring. The displays are huge, vibrant, and wonderfully detailed, with so much to see and enjoy at every turn , it really feels like stepping into a glowing wonderland. Parking is plentiful and well organised, which made the visit stress-free. Some areas were a little muddy, so good footwear is recommended, especially during winter. We all had an amazing time, and itβs even more stunning in person than in photos. A joyful, festive experience that we would happily visit again! β¨πΆπβ
