My son are V4/5 level boulderers and members at Red Spider in Hampshire. We were impressed with the bouldering offering here - an upstairs area exclusively for bouldering, the best cave I've ever seen, and a full comp wall. Note that there also non-comp wall boulders downstairs opposite the comp wall. The comp wall is set harder than Red Spider, but that's not a complaint. Whereas at Red Spider I can get up to about 22, I could probably manage as far as 15 here. Parking was also a good experience. Many spaces were available when we arrived at 12 on a half-term weekday. Note that you can park on the road outside beyond the sign which indicates this.

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

Best for families with children aged five and above, particularly for first-timers who benefit from the patient, structured taster session format. The upstairs bouldering area with competition wall appeals to more experienced climbers visiting with younger beginners β€” both can climb simultaneously on different terrain.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

πŸ’‘Book a taster session with an instructor for any first-time visitors β€” reviewers consistently recommend it
⏰Children aged five and above can climb independently in designated areas
🎟️The upstairs bouldering area has a competition wall and bouldering cave for more experienced climbers
πŸš—You can bring your own food for birthday parties if preferred

β€œAn excellent place to spend time with children. Adults will also enjoy climbing here. It’s a great physical workout. The routes are suitable for everyone β€” both beginners and more experienced climbers. Children from the age of 5 can safely climb on their own in designated areas. The service was very fast. We enjoyed everything, and the kids were absolutely thrilled. We will definitely come back.”

β€œWe had my sons birthday party here on sunday and what an experience. We had sam and Paul as instructors for a group of 7 year olds. They were kind patient and very encouraging to the children. They loved it and all the parents said how well organised it was. We also had a lovely area for food after where we could bring our own. I will recommend and will definatly return. Thank you!”

β€œBrilliant family session! The instructor, Matt, -was great-took time to explain how everything works and make sure everyone was safe when climbing but still made sure we had a lot of different types of wall to have a go at, including bouldering. Highly recommend, especially if you’ve never tried climbing before :)”
