Battersea Park Children's Zoo
π London, Greater London
Battersea Park Children's Zoo houses over 100 animals including monkeys, meerkats, otters, lemurs, and Scottish wildcats alongside an adventure playground with climbing structures, sandpit, and a real fire engine and helicopter.
Wonderful zoo, perfectly sized for a child to look around everything and have a good play too. The animals are well cared for and we listened to three very informative talks by keepers. Rosie in particular was great and answered all of our questions. My daughter loved seeing the Scottish Wildcats and watching all of the animals enjoy their enrichment activities.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children under seven who want hands-on animal time without the scale of a large zoo. Weekday mornings deliver shorter queues and more active animals. The keeper talks add genuine educational value β plan your visit around the talk schedule.

βIt was a damp and very cold winters afternoon when I visited Battersea Zoo, so I was not expecting many animals to be out. Surprisingly there were lots to see including birds, reptiles, insects, monkeys and farm animals. At certain times you could see animals being fed and the keepers would provide information about them. They had a gift shop, which had a lot of toys and a few souvenirs. It was the prices you would expect from a London attraction. Staff were polite. There was a great play area, which kept the little one occupied for a long time. Some of the area was a bit muddy, so I suggest wearing sensible shoes. There were toilets, a baby changing room and hand washing stations in the park. The toilets were clean. There is disabled access to most of the park. Some of the playground area is not accessible. The meerkat tunnel is also not accessible, but the glass was so scratched in it you could not really see a lot anyway. There are disabled toilets.β

βIdeal place if you have small children. Small in terms of size but perfect to walk around on a nice day and then you have the Battersea Park to walk around afterwards and explore aswell. We came first thing on a Monday morning so it was very quiet which was better than it being busy and overcrowded which it might be on a weekend.β

βWe recently visited Battersea Park Childrenβs Zoo and had a pleasant time overall. The playground area is fantastic β very well designed and enjoyable for children. However, we were a little disappointed that several animals were not visible during our visit, with only the information signs indicating what should be there. It felt a bit like most of the visit was focused on the play area rather than the zoo itself. Still, itβs a lovely place for families, and with a few more visible animals, it could be an even better experience.β

Overview
The zoo is compact enough for under-5s to complete without fatigue. Animals are spread across well-maintained enclosures and keeper talks run at scheduled intervals β reviewers specifically name individual keepers for their thoroughness and willingness to answer questions. The adventure playground includes a sensory sandpit and a water play zone active in summer. Battersea Park itself extends the day with walks, a boating lake, and cafe options immediately outside.
