1 / 2Cole End Park and nature reserve
📍 Birmingham, West Midlands
Cole End Park sits along the River Cole valley with signed walking paths, a children's playground at the entrance, wooded trails, and open grassland for picnics. HS2 construction has affected some grassland sections.
It's a very nice nature area, located at the gates of Birmingham; valley of river Cole. Paths are full of bridges from different times, well marked, easy to find a way through. Good for from 30 minutes to about an hour walk. There is playground for children's at the entrance of river Cole Nature Reserve. Location don't have a car park but a few places are along the road.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with primary-age children who enjoy relaxed riverside walks in a natural setting. The playground at the entrance suits younger kids, the trails work for older ones. Bring leads for the river stretches and check current HS2 impact on the rear grassland before planning a long loop.

“Lovely little park and small wooded area. Paths/trails were good. It's really nice by the river and there's an open grass area if you keep walking.”

“The park (play area) is lovely and well constructed The nature reserve is nice. The grassland area behind WAS a nice walk, but unfortunately, it has been a victim of HS2!. If you do take this walk, I would suggest being very careful going under the bridge ( sometimes there's broken glass) and on the bank, there is a narrow stretch that you might want to have your dog on a lead.”

Overview
Cole End Park follows the River Cole with well-marked paths spanning multiple eras of bridge construction. The children's playground sits at the nature reserve entrance, with open grass areas beyond for picnics. Wooded trails extend further in. Some grassland sections are currently affected by HS2 works, and one underpass warrants care. Roadside parking only — no dedicated car park. A solid 30–60 minute family walk.
