1 / 2Hengrove Park Leisure Centre
📍 Bristol, South West
Modern Bristol leisure centre with a 50m competition pool, 20m learner pool, climbing range, 155-station gym, and one-level softplay. Best for families with toddlers or children wanting varied indoor activities.
I enjoy using the centre for swimming and other activities but this review is mostly about the softplay facility. I like the facility because it’s all on one level and my little one can enjoy it safely without me having to navigate any awkward softplay designs. Although, this is another vote to say that the timings will reduce our chance of visiting, as one of only 2 places in south bristol that offered a walk in and play as long as you want service, it’s a shame that isn’t the case now. Also, the timings aren’t advertised on the website or any social media so it’s impossible to know what they are until you get to the centre. It was also disappointing when we came to visit the softplay and it wasn’t there because of a gala, please can you advertise opening times and sessions clearly in an accessible place please? Many thanks.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with toddlers and young children who want swimming and soft play in the same building, or older kids and teens drawn to the rare climbing range. The one-level softplay is particularly safe for under-5s. Check softplay session availability by phone before travelling as scheduling is not published online.

“Out of all the leisure centres in Bristol, this is CERTAINLY the one I would choose. It has modern facilities, a great gym, set of courts, a CLIMBING RANGE which is pretty rare to see and an amazing pool! The changing cubicles are endless, showers always hot, hallways always clean and a great deal of opportunities for public swimming. If I had to give a complaint, the water is sometimes a bit salty and a bit cold but other than that, amazing! Keep it up!”

“Really disappointing that you have decided to change the timings and bookings for the soft play. We now have to either sit and wait 45 minutes after my child's lesson or we get 20 minutes of the first session. The only other option is to then pay for 2 sessions that we wouldnt use. The system was perfectly fine previously as most children wouldn't spend more than an hour in the soft play anyway. However the staff behind the cafe were brilliant, really.understanding and took down the feedback.”

“Have been a member for many years but now at the point where I’m having to consider cancelling my membership. Primarily use the gym but it’s completely unusable due to the ridiculous amount of people & especially teenagers attempting to use it. Even weekday afternoons which used to be fairly civilised have now turned into a what looks like a WWE tag team event when groups or 4/5/6 kids stand around the limited amount of equipment and render it out of action for an hour at a time. Either the gym gets expanded and they provide much more equipment or they limit numbers, however we all know neither will happen and they will continue to rob loyal customers.”
