Lloyd Park
📍 Croydon, Greater London
Expansive 114-acre green space in Croydon with a dedicated children's playground, football goals, rugby posts, shaded picnic areas, and an on-site café. Tram-accessible with pram-friendly paths throughout.
The jewel in the crown of Croydon's parks, Lloyd Park is not far from where I live, and I frequent it fairly regularly. Owing to its topography, its irregular shape and the fact that it is bordered by other green spaces, it feels larger than its 114 acres. The park is popular with families, dog walkers, joggers, etc. There is a cafe on the south side of the park (a separate entry on Google Maps), where there is a nearby car park and some tennis courts. Adjacent to that is Lloyd Park Tram Stop, which is the 3rd stop from East Croydon Station on the New Addington line. It can also be accessed on foot from the station via Park Hill Recreation Ground and some side streets and off-road paths. The park contains a mix of woods, meadows, hedges and shrubs and there are plenty of easy walking trails through the gentle but surprisingly diverse terrain. The paths are mostly unpaved, and not particularly well-marked, but the park is small enough so that it's difficult to get lost. During rainy weather, some parts of the grounds, especially on the eastern margins, can become waterlogged, muddy, and difficult to traverse. There is some ambiguity about riding bicycles in the park - I've seen signs in the past prohibiting them, but more recently one welcoming responsible riding. Maybe I'll provide photos later.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families who want open green space without admission costs — the combination of playground, sports facilities, and picnic areas covers all ages from toddlers to teens. Arrive early or come by tram to sidestep parking friction. Unpaved sections can be muddy after rain, so pack appropriate footwear for younger kids.

“Beautiful park with soccer goals and rugby post there to practice with and play with the kids. Wonderful shaded areas to lay down a blanket and have a picnic. I had a great time with the family listening to music and watching all the other people have their own personal parties. Multiple ethnicities there with friends and kids in the play area. On the other side of the park there was a workout equipment as well and multiple trails to walk if your looking to jog or hike.”

“Lloyd Park is a beautiful green space - had a such a lovely walk this morning! It was very peaceful! This park is perfect for a long walk, run, dog walk or a trip with children (great playground too). The only downside is parking: Croydon Council advertises 3 hours free, yet I was still charged 20p via Ringo, which doesn’t make sense.”

Overview
Lloyd Park's irregular shape and bordering green spaces make it feel larger than its 114 acres. Families use the open fields for picnics and ball games, the playground for younger children, and the wooded paths for walking. An on-site shop at the entrance serves food, coffee, and ice cream. Free parking is available with a small charge managed via the Ringo app — some visitors report unexpected fees.
