1 / 2Magna Science Adventure Centre
📍 Templeborough, North West
Set in a vast former steelworks with four pavilions — Air, Earth, Fire, Water — housing over 100 interactive science exhibits. Outdoor adventure playground, summer splash park, and The Big Melt show. Ages 4–16. Dress in warm layers year-round.
We visited Magna for the first time with our daughter and found it such an enjoyable experience for all the family. Each zone provides fun learning and hands on experience. The staff are super friendly and passionate about what they do. The outside play area is also fantastic and look forward to returning in the spring to enjoy it more.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
An excellent full-day destination for families with children aged 4–16 who enjoy hands-on science and interactive learning. Staff are passionate and knowledgeable. The outdoor playground adds strong value for younger children. Wear warm layers regardless of the season — the building is genuinely cold.

“Easily spend all day there. A big place showing history of local metal foundry. Lots to do, good for kids and adults. There is also big playground for little kids and big kids. You can bring own picnic to eat in the cafe or buy something from there.”

“I loved the museum, fascinating, only thing it was quite cold ❄️so pleased wear warm clothing. There were different floors and areas such as fire and water to explore. Also good for children with interactive items to explore.”

“We have been coming to Magna for many years and we have always had a great time. We didn’t spend as long as usual today as we were very chilly. As usual there were quite a few things out of action to be repaired but still plenty to keep you occupied. I’ve noticed a massive price hike in their food prices which is the same as everywhere. But my only reason for no 5 star is due to the size of my £12 chicken burger and fries. It was tiny! Yet my daughters kids meal of nuggets and chips was quite substantial (so I pinched a few of hers). We always visit the shop and to be honest I don’t think it is too badly priced. Especially if you have a love of gem stones.”

Overview
Magna occupies a former steelworks and splits its exhibits across four pavilions, each themed around a classical element. Over 100 interactive science experiences are spread through Air, Earth, Fire, and Water zones, alongside the Big Melt show and Face of Steel experiences. An outdoor adventure playground and summer splash park extend the visit. The building retains its industrial structure and gets extremely cold year-round; multiple reviews specifically warn to wear layers.
