We visited Magna for the first time with our daughter and found it such an enjoyable experience for all the family. Each zone provides fun learning and hands on experience. The staff are super friendly and passionate about what they do. The outside play area is also fantastic and look forward to returning in the spring to enjoy it more.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

An excellent full-day destination for families with children aged 4–16 who enjoy hands-on science and interactive learning. Staff are passionate and knowledgeable. The outdoor playground adds strong value for younger children. Wear warm layers regardless of the season — the building is genuinely cold.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

💡Dress in warm layers and bring coats — the building is cold year-round regardless of outside temperature
Allow a full day across all four pavilions and the outdoor areas
🎟️You can bring your own food and eat in the cafe area — useful given the on-site food pricing
🚗Pick up a site map on arrival as the layout across multiple zones can be hard to navigate

Easily spend all day there. A big place showing history of local metal foundry. Lots to do, good for kids and adults. There is also big playground for little kids and big kids. You can bring own picnic to eat in the cafe or buy something from there.

I loved the museum, fascinating, only thing it was quite cold ❄️so pleased wear warm clothing. There were different floors and areas such as fire and water to explore. Also good for children with interactive items to explore.

It was hard to navigate around, you go through the main and there is some bungee and zip line, there was a sign for then zip line but not for the main part. Loads of people waiting for the zip line section I ended up kicked a childs lunch as it was in the middle of the floor and I was looking up! Lucky the child wasn't with it 🙈. The actual elements sections was fun for children, the fire tornado wasn't working as it was wet and there was so many leaks. I understand its an extremely old building but if you can add zip lines I'm sure you can fix it up a bit. Highly recommend you bring your coat! As I didn't and I was freezing!!

Overview

Magna occupies a former steelworks and splits its exhibits across four pavilions, each themed around a classical element. Over 100 interactive science experiences are spread through Air, Earth, Fire, and Water zones, alongside the Big Melt show and Face of Steel experiences. An outdoor adventure playground and summer splash park extend the visit. The building retains its industrial structure and gets extremely cold year-round; multiple reviews specifically warn to wear layers.
