1 / 2Riverside Leisure Centre
π Chelmsford, Greater London
Multi-facility leisure centre in Chelmsford offering ice skating, swimming, gym, and fitness classes. Recently upgraded with new-look exterior, cafe, and improved changing rooms. Birthday party packages available.
With the upgrade, you can see every entrance to the βΈοΈπββοΈπββοΈ & the rest. My experience today was at the cafΓ© & being at the ice rink. There are positives to the upgrade: you made the place real appealing with that big building having patterned & coloured windows & they could reshape the ice rink as well (you can see its ancience on the outside with that old logo when the current logo is near). Like I said in the first scentence, it is easier to go anywhere - there are symbols for which places there are, whether it is going up the escalator or it is downstairs. A negative to the upgrade is that, they removed the diving board from the water area but at least they added a slide. If you do not like the upgrade, put up because it is good for the environment. For when I was on the rink, it was a nice thing to have it cleaned up for the next session do it looks clear, branded & practical for us to use. I got scared that I could fall over & bang my head, at least I could have a good experience.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families wanting ice skating or swimming during off-peak hours β the ice rink and pool are solid after recent improvements. School groups dominate the gym from mid-afternoon on weekdays. Admission policies can vary between staff members, so confirming arrangements in advance avoids frustration on arrival.

βThe facilities - pool and gym for me - are generally good and the changing rooms for both are looked after and clean. The staff are friendly too. No issues with the actual place. My problem is with the take over of the gym between 3.30 and 5 by school kids. Fair enough, give them a few days - I understand it's a good thing - but every single day? The gym is essentially off limits to the general public at those times. They're all well mannered kids but it's the sheer numbers of them. Give us one day to work with please!β

βStep it up. I only use it for the gym. It lacks variety and is spaced out awkwardly. I have been loyal for many years now and consider myself a gym vet. Turned away for wearing luxury Jeans (No rivets). Sorry, I am not paying Β£45.00 to be turned away and spoken to like a child. ,"I will make an exception for you. No. Actually I can't. We just turned someone else away from the building, they might see you (Yeah, right). I am in my late 30s. I am not sure if want to deal with the overcrowding from other events, old machines ( not much variety) and parking issues. I understand your gym = your rules. But the way this unfolded has seriously started me considering other options. I left feeling ripped off and upset. Those jeans would not have caused damage to equipment and you are wrong, not all gyms enforce this rule. I am this close to cancelling.β

βGood family swimming facilities - if you can get in. Admission policies seem to vary depending on who is on duty, and absolutely impossible to get through on the phone to check before hand. Every option rings out to voicemail - unhelpful when a timely response is needed. Frustrating when we are paying once via local taxes, again via membership and a third time for booking fees, for very poor communications. Unless youβre desperate for swimming, try the CSAC venue instead - they are responsive and could not be more helpful.β
