1 / 3Southwood Park
đ London, Greater London
Spacious local park in New Eltham featuring a toddler-friendly playground with shaded adult seating, outdoor gym, table tennis, and a second hidden field section beyond the allotments. Free entry, no cafe on site.
Lovely park for everyone, there is a playground, gym set and further back has noughts and crosses and a table tennis table to use. Lovely COVID memorial garden and even further back is another field where a lot of dogs are walked.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with mixed-age children who want more than a standard playground. The gym equipment keeps adults engaged, the hedged layout makes toddler supervision easy, and the hidden second field gives older kids room to roam. Arrive with closing time in mind â gate times are earlier than Google suggests and have caused wasted trips.

âPopped grandkids up to park when finished school for summer break , it was lovely for me to be able to sit in shade while still able to keep eye on kids , the play park is obscured from road by a lovely Hollie hedge and has adequate seatingvareas within for adults ..large greenspace behind the playpark for walkers ,runners and picnicers as well as an area of gym equipment , all very clean and well kept flower and tree borders , new eltham library stands just in front of park area which provides lots of activities to be enjoyed by whole community young and old .â

âThe entrance to Southwood Park is in Southwood Road, a little way to the west of the crossroads near New Eltham Station. There is a second section of the park which can be easily missed, tucked away behind the allotments, next to the railway line.â

âNice little park. Has a play area for kids. A large grass area for walking dogs and some trees. Good for blackberries around late July.â

Overview
Southwood Park has two distinct sections: a hedged playground with good parental sightlines, shaded benches, outdoor gym equipment, table tennis, and noughts and crosses boards; and a second open field tucked behind allotments near the railway line. A COVID memorial garden connects the areas. Blackberries ripen along the edges in late summer. The park closes in the early evening â gates lock before dark.
