Black Rocks (Eastville Park)
đ Bristol, South West
Historic sandstone rock formations in Eastville Park offering natural climbing routes and traverses for children aged 5 and above. Free entry with parking. Connects to trails toward Snuff Mills.
In late March 1953 I fell off of the snake and sword rocks, bounced off the river path and into the river. I floated toward the wier but was pulled out by some workmen. I spent several weeks in traction at the B.R.I. being released on crutches in a plaster caste just in time for Queen Elizabeth's coronation. The caste came off just in time for the new school term. Reported in the Bristol Evening Post. Lucky me.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with older children aged 8 and above who want an unstructured, adventurous climbing experience on real rock. The natural setting demands supervision and an acceptance of genuine risk. Families combining the climb with a walk to Snuff Mills get the most from the location.

âSome silly climbing, ate 5 flys on the top out. Traverse was funny. Some good tree holes and fat jugz. COnS: smelt like raw sewage and I could have hurt myself if I fell and someone said my feet were weird, are they ?â
