From the moment we set foot into the lounge at British Pullman in Victoria Station, the team at British Pullman couldn't have been more hospitable. Booked on a day-long UK Railtours charter to Portsmouth, we did not have tickets in hand as they were sent by mail to America and did not arrive until our return from the UK. Not a problem! Thomas kindly dashed out to the platform, found our names and told us which carriage to board (Vera) and offered us mulled wine or fresh orange juice before boarding. Even before we boarded, Imogen, our carriage’s wonderful steward, greeted us promptly and made sure to snap our picture before we alighted the train. Once underway, the Pullman team seamlessly presented a sumptuous brunch with peach bellinis, kindly looked after us throughout the day, then served a delicious dinner on the way home. Though the ambiance was formal, the service was friendly and efficient, and we learned a lot of fun facts about the train and other topics from Imogen. In short, Thomas, Imogen and the rest of the Pullman team brought great enthusiasm and passion to their mission and delivered a truly magical experience!

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Suited to special-occasion trips with teenagers or older children who can engage with a formal multi-course dining experience and appreciate the historic significance of the carriages. The extended journey times, formal atmosphere, and premium pricing make this a once-in-a-lifecycle experience rather than a regular family day out.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

💡Tickets may be mailed — contact Belmond staff in advance if yours haven't arrived, as bookings can be located by name
Arrive at London Victoria Platform 2 where dedicated Belmond staff will guide boarding
🎟️Dress for a formal dining atmosphere — the carriages are working Art Deco interiors, not a theme park recreation
🚗Allow extra time at the departure end of the journey for platform waits in cold weather

A really nice journey aboard the British Pullman for the Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea. We travelled in carriage Vera, famously used by Nelson Mandela, and felt truly part of history. The Art Deco interior, elegant table settings and flawless service made this a unique experience. The scenic route from London Victoria through the Kent countryside to Ramsgate and back was the perfect setting for a luxurious afternoon. Every course – from savoury treats to delicate pastries – was beautifully presented and full of flavour. Impeccable service, historic charm, and culinary excellence. A once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Went to Bath with my friend. It was an unforgettable experience. From start to the end everything was amazing in these cars made in 1920's. The service was excellent. We liked the food. Lots of prosecco and wine. Comfortable seats. Christmas decorations in Vintage cars were so picturesque. The weather in Bath was so cold and rainy. The only thing is we waited in the Bath Station a bit longer than they said the train would take off and it was too cold. But they welcomed us with mulled Wine!

My friend brought this for me as a supirse 60th birthday gift. The experience was amazing the food outstanding. Our elegant carriage was Ibis and is 101 years old. The staff were so attentive from the arrival at Victoria Platform 2. Our journey to Kent was where we enjoyed a 5 course meal with a short stop off a glass of champagne and our trio singers. I did not want the journey to end. An amazing day making wonderful memories.
