1 / 2Heaton Park Northern play area
📍 Manchester, North West
Adventure playground in Heaton Park with a giant slide accessed by chain-link climbing obstacles. Separate swings, slides, and sand areas for toddlers. Fenced play area with free entry and parking on site.
This is one of the best play areas in all of Manchester. The main attraction, the giant slide, really has the wow factor. Children have to climb up chain link ladders then scramble horizontally across more of the same before even making it to the base of the enclosed main tower leading up to the top of the slide. The slide itself is a fully enclosed metal tube, and children emerge from the bottom really fast - enough to give them a healthy scare. There are also other play facilities such as swings geared towards children who are too young or short to manage the climb up and across to the base of the slide. If you want happy, excited (and tired out!) children who are feeling positive about overcoming a not insignificant challenge, this is the place to take them.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with active children aged 5+ who want a genuine climbing challenge rather than a standard playground. Toddlers have their own separate equipment within the same fenced area, making it workable for mixed-age groups.

“Few lovely parks one near car park and other near lake with a variety of activities. Cafe is nice with both internal / external seating... located next to the lake where you can watch the wildlife or hire a boat and enjoy a trip round the lake. They also have Swan pedlo for hire. Our kids loved it. Plenty of paths and roads to walk. Small farm with a variety of animals including donkeys, pigs, goats, sheep, turtles, ducks and more. Small shopping area for food again or gifts.”

Overview
Heaton Park Northern play area centres on a giant slide reached by climbing chain-link ladders and crawling horizontally across further chain obstacles before ascending the enclosed tower. Designed for confident climbers aged 5+, it delivers a genuine physical challenge rather than a standard park slide. Separate toddler swings and slides sit within the fenced area, and a sand play zone adds variety.
