1 / 3Philips Park
π Manchester, North West
One of Manchester's oldest parks with woodland, grassland, water features, cycling tracks, a skatepark, and a Saturday 5km Parkrun. Tucked behind the Etihad Stadium.
I spent a bit of time at Philips Park recently, and honestly, itβs one of my favorite escapes in Manchester. Itβs tucked away right behind the Etihad Stadium, but once you step inside, the city noise just disappears. What I really liked about it is how it doesn't feel like a flat, boring park; itβs full of steep little dips and hidden paths that lead down to the River Medlock. I went on a slightly misty morning, and the wooded areas felt properly wildβI almost forgot I was a ten-minute tram ride from the city centre. The flower beds near the entrance are kept really well, and itβs a great spot to just sit on a bench and watch the world go by. Itβs got a much more relaxed, "locals-only" vibe compared to the busier parks nearby, and itβs perfect if you just want a bit of headspace.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families who enjoy nature walks, cycling, and outdoor exercise rather than structured playground play. The varied terrain keeps children engaged beyond formal equipment, and the Saturday Parkrun gives regular visitors a consistent weekly activity. Pack waterproofs in wetter months as paths can get damp.

βNice small park in Manchester. Has a Parkrun every Saturday is your want to do a 5km walk or run. There's also a skatepark at one end of the park.β

βIt's a good place to take walks and cycle during the damp months otherwise when the weather is great, it's a top park. It has a cycling track section for cycling enthusiast and a general cycling/walking path for the public. Considering it's close to the National Cycling Centre, one would have expected a better cycling routes/paths which are encouraging for physical activity as there isn't much to do in this area. Another reason I can't give it 5 stars is because I compare this to the worldwide park standards and we are a bit short on the cleanliness, tidiness and the standards of children's play park.β
