1 / 3Chorlton Water Park
📍 Manchester, North West
Free nature reserve in Chorlton with a lakeside walking circuit, two children's playgrounds, and connection to the Mersey and Transpennine Trail. Dog-friendly with on-site cafe and parking.
Absolute fantastic 👍 experience here today. Lovely walks, beautiful scenery. There are two playgrounds for kids, one is a bit further down up hill. Absolutely great for dog walking and a must for relaxation. The only downfall+ cafe was shut. Play park is not big, but excellent for over 6+ ages.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children 6+ who enjoy outdoor walking and natural scenery. The lake circuit is flat and accessible; the trail connections suit active families wanting more distance. Bring your own soap and toilet paper as a precaution. The cafe being closed occasionally is the main variable to plan around.

“We went on an Autumn day and spent a couple of hours here walking around and then playing in the park. There is carparking on site and cafe. For the toilets take your own soap and toilet paper, there wasn't any . We always bring some with us.”

“I'm sure this is Chorlton Water Park. The lake gives it away. Chorlton Park is just down the road but, and this is the important bit, does not have a big lake in it. Just handy to know I think. You changed the name now, good job. :)”

“Lovely place for a walk if the weather is good, and you can get on to the Mersey and join the Transpennine Trail if you want to extend your stroll. There's a good children's playground and it's pretty flat to go around the lake (suitable for buggies or a robust mobility scooter). There's a car park with toilets (they are not great though) and there's often an ice cream van there too.”

Overview
Chorlton Water Park centres on a large lake with flat paths around the perimeter — suitable for prams and mobility aids. Two playgrounds are positioned across the site, with the second sitting slightly uphill. The Transpennine Trail connects directly from the park for extended walking. An ice cream van is a regular presence. Facilities are basic — toilets sometimes lack supplies, and the cafe operates inconsistently.
