1 / 2Museum of Richmond
📍 Richmond, Greater London
Compact free museum on the second floor of Richmond's Old Town Hall, displaying artefacts from Richmond's history including items from the former royal palace. Features a children's play area and runs family workshops and craft sessions.
Lovely local museum with loads on display from history of Richmond where we live
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with school-age children who are exploring Richmond and want to add a free cultural stop to a riverside outing. The children's play area makes the visit workable for younger siblings. Too compact to anchor a full day — pair with a Thames walk or trip to Richmond Park to extend the outing.

“An impressive and imposing building houses the Richmond Museum along with the Library. It is next to the banks of the Thames where many people visit daily for the coolness, for a walk or to practice their painting skills while looking at the view”

“Nice place to visit and learn some of the local history and as many other London museums free of charge. There is a children play area as well.”

“A small museum tucked away on the second floor of the Old Town Hall and above the reference library. It had a selection of artefacts from Richmond's history, including from the royal place that was once located here. It also has a small shop.”

Overview
Museum of Richmond occupies the second floor of the Old Town Hall, adjacent to the Thames, and holds artefacts spanning Richmond's history — from Mesolithic flint axes to theatrical masks and items from the former Richmond Palace. A children's play area is on-site. Family workshops and craft sessions run throughout the year. The museum is small and works best as a 45–60 minute stop rather than a standalone day out. A small gift shop is available.
