I feel really sorry for cinema atm and I don't want to lose them. I only paid about a fiver and there was only about 15 in. It's a run down building, small screens and the seats are not comfortable. I am clearly spoilt as my home town cinema has large fully adjustable reclining chairs. To renovate to that standard would cost millions but I doubt that investors are jumping at a chance to give money to cinema right now. I am being kind giving 3 stars, staff were friendly and service was as expected. But there was a group who just sat chatting and making phone calls for the first half hour of the film which meant people behind me were shouting at them to shut up and they didn't until they felt like it. It was quite an aggressive atmosphere and it would've been better if staff were on hand to manage it. If you want to chat and make phone calls go to the café. People came in late which was also disruptive. With the screens again I am spoilt with hd quality and emersive experience at home and it felt like I was at the cinema in the 90's. Investment desperately needed and behaviour management required too. Film was bad but that wasn't the cinemas fault. The only thing I enjoyed was my hot chocolate from Costa

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families attending shorter films on weekdays when prices are lower and crowds are smaller. Uncomfortable seating makes longer films a poor choice for young children. The dated facilities and reported hygiene notes around food areas mean this works as a convenient city-centre option rather than a destination cinema.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

💡Choose shorter films — seating is uncomfortable for extended screenings
Weekday visits offer lower ticket prices and smaller audiences
🎟️Bring warm layers — the cinema can run cold
🚗Arrive on time — Screen 1 seat positions differ from the online booking layout

This cinema is very dated. The staff were very welcoming but unfortunately our experience watching Scream 7 was diablotical. The house lights were on and when the movie started, they were still on and we couldn't see the screen due to it. We had to go and enquire with a member of staff who seemed to have forgotten his job, and he came in apologizing and flipped a switch to turn the lights off. Due to this we missed the first few minutes as we were too busy trying to figure out what was happening.

Had a few hours spare and was in the area so thought we would nip in here to watch a film. Prices for tickets wasnt too bad as was a week day but I shouldn't have picked a long film. Seats here are well uncomfortable and doesn't help the cinema was very cold. They need to put some heating on. The corridors here are very old-school looking and need a bit of a character as well but the place was clean.

I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because the place has good friendly staff. After we left and the place was closing up 3 mice came out to play and was lingering around the food on Costa side

Overview

ODEON Birmingham New Street sits in the city centre with multiple screens, a cafe, and pram access. Screen 1 is the largest auditorium. Weekday tickets attract lower prices. The building is dated — seating is widely described as uncomfortable and the facilities are worn. Technical issues including lighting failures mid-screening have been reported. Mice were noted near the food concessions area in at least one recent visit.
