1 / 2The London Equestrian Centre
π London, Greater London
Family-run on 34 acres of Totteridge Valley green belt, accepting children from age 3 for lessons and pony rides. Farm animals, tractor viewing, and an on-site cafe make this a full day out.
My child has been riding here a little over a year and we have had a good experience overall. It took a while to find the coaches that were the best fit for my childβs learning style and personality and the best lessons for her, but she is very happy and improving. Riding lessons are expensive in general (which is no surprise as horses are expensive to maintain), but the lessons here are at the market rate (we tried a few other places before deciding LEC was the best fit for us). We have found the group lessons with Natasha to be excellent (and the riders get longer on the horse than with private lessons). The group lessons also give the kids instruction in horse care (a little at a time so they build knowledge and experience). Adi is another great coach who has given my childβs learning style excellent feedback and helped her improve. It is a bit confusing administratively as one gets started (especially as a parent with little equestrian experience myself) and set up as they do not seem to have a single, dedicated admin in the office (at least when we are there) as that person is also pitching in in caring for the horses and facilities. So, you may have to ask around if they donβt happen to be in the office. It is just worth noting because there will be someone around to help, but better to go early if you need help with gloves, helmets, boots, first time riding, etc.
π Family Action Verdict
The standout choice for families with children aged 3 and up who want a first riding experience in a professionally run, rural setting close to London. The combination of riding, farm activities, and a quality cafe means the whole family stays engaged regardless of riding ability. Book lessons in advance as popular instructors fill quickly.

βWe had the most beautiful experience. The only equestrian centre that accepts 3yo kids. One 15 mins pony ride is Β£40. Ok expensive BUT as we spent the whole day there (for free) checking tractors, petting horses and watching people trainingβ¦it was totally worth it. Two ladies took care of the ride so I felt my son was under total control and safe. ALL THE STAFF there was super friendly, available and knowledgeable. Great communication among the team. Huge PLUS for βTHE BARNβ the most beautiful hidden gem, warm and cosy restaurant with delicious food and drinks. 100% recommended !β

βMy 3 year old daughter had an amazing day here we loved our trainer Amy she was wonderfull with my daughter and teaching her how to make the pony stop and go. She even gave my little one a beautifull horse badge wich was the Cherry on top for her. I would highly recommend this place and we will be definitely be coming more often. Thank you Amy and the team πβ
