π Glasgow, Central Scotland
Modern university sports facility at Strathclyde with indoor swimming pools, a fully equipped gym, sauna, steam room, and outdoor areas. Open to external members as well as students, with toddler-accessible amenities.
Fantastic Uni gym. If you are eligible for the student or external student discount, then this gym is well worth the price π. Great community vibe (made more friends here than from my own course π€£) and friendly staff, S&C room and sauna/steam room are top notch, weight machines are decent. Only downsides are that it gets busy at times, especially when first semester kicks in, and the gym rules can be quite strict at times. Overall, this gym definitely enhanced my student experience and is a great addition to the uni.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families who can visit on weekends, when the facility is noticeably less busy than weekday evenings packed with students. The pool, sauna, and gym are all genuinely high quality. External members pay full price, so it works best for families with a regular weekly routine rather than occasional visits.

βGym has great selection of equipments and is decently spacious. Weekends are less busy so can get maximum use with no waits, however, lots of students on the evenings so waiting times longer. Swimming pool is decent but has quite a few slips. Changing rooms are spacious and clean.β

βNice, clean pool area and changing rooms and good sauna and steam room. However, disappointing that so many of the lanes are hired out for external use at 7am, three out of five weekday mornings. This is obviously a peak time for members wanting to fit in a swim before work. Surely it would be better for these people to use the pool for training purposes before the pool opens so that members don't need to squeeze into such a restricted space (have seen people having to wait till the small space clears out a bit before being able to get in).β

βThe gym has great facilities, but itβs very clearly tailored to students. In December I paid Β£46.10 (the normal membership) despite the gym being closed for 6 days and operating on reduced hours (11β6) for the rest of the period. With a standard 9β5 job, this made it practically impossible to attend for a large part of the month. Even in normal times, access is restrictive unless you donβt need to be in the office by 9am. Peak hours are extremely crowded, and the music is very loud throughout the day. Classes are mostly scheduled during weekday working hours, and Pilates β one of the main reasons I joined β now has timings incompatible with most full-time jobs. If youβre a student, this gym is probably good value. However, if youβre a full-time professional with no access to membership discounts, Iβd strongly discourage joining, as the cost, timetable, and overall environment donβt offer good value for money.β
