Nature Discovery Garden
π London, Greater London
Free outdoor gardens beside the Natural History Museum featuring wildlife ponds with newts and toads, an Evolution Garden with a bronze Diplodocus, real touchable fossils, and prehistoric footprint displays.
I have seen many common toads and newts here. Very recommended. πΈπ€ππΈ The frog pond does not need the entry tickets.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families combining a Natural History Museum visit with outdoor time, particularly children who engage with hands-on fossil handling and wildlife pond spotting. The geological timeline embedded in the path surface is genuinely engaging for curious children. Arrive early β the garden gets crowded as the museum fills up.

βBeautiful area at the Natural History museum focusing on plant life and habitats. In addition to the science and beautiful landscape, there are benches where you can relax or have your packed lunch. One side is more about natural habitats and plants and the other is all about the bronze dinosaur! A great free activity before entering the museum but can get crowded as the day progresses so go early.β

βAmazing place. Nice atmosphere. Look out for the mega Flint's. The ages are listed on the floor as you walk to get a feel of the geological time frame. Lovely place with plenty of benches to sit and eat your lunch with kids too.β

Overview
The Nature Discovery Garden spans two distinct zones: a wildlife habitat area with ponds supporting newts, toads, and dragonflies, and an Evolution Garden featuring a bronze Diplodocus, touchable fossils, and geological age markers embedded in the ground. No museum ticket required β the garden has its own entrance. Benches throughout make it a practical spot for a packed lunch. Access is free and the garden sits adjacent to the Natural History Museum's main building.
